New Reception Parents

WELCOME TO THE ST RICHARD'S SCHOOL FAMILY!

The start of your child's school journey is both an exciting and daunting time for any parent. There are forms to fill, dates to remember and of course, the mixed feelings all parents have as they drop their child to school for the first time.

The reception staff team are really looking forward to welcoming you and your child to our wonderful school in September.

We are very aware that the circumstances this year could mean that your child is feeling a little more anxious about starting school than they might have been. Please be assured that we will do our absolute best to make sure that their transition from nursery to school is as smooth and enjoyable. Our main priority is always your child’s happiness and safety.

Communication between home and school is vital, happy parents equals happy children! We will keep you informed of all changes and updated with all the latest guidance via ParentMail and the school website.

Tapestry (our online learning journal) is an essential way of communicating. We will be setting up your child’s account early this year enabling us to get to know a bit more about your child over the summer holidays. A video explaining how to do this is attached to this page. There is an ‘all about me’ form to fill in with your child’s likes, dislikes and interests. When the account is fully activated (no longer enrolling) you will be able to add photographs and observations of adventures your child has over the summer holidays, we would love to see some of these and it will really help us to get to know your child.

We will also use Tapestry to introduce ourselves to your child. We will post messages and videos from the teachers and teaching assistants, please share these with your child as it will help them to get to know all of us a little more.

As we were unable to meet the children and have transition days we have decided to make the transition process a bit longer this year to give the children sufficient time adjust to school.

The start dates are slightly different from those you were initially given, please take note of the new dates as well as the new start and end times of the school day, these are different for each year group in line with the school risk assessment.

The option for children to attend school on a part time basis is always available in their reception year. We know that some children have been away from any formal setting for a long period of time and we would encourage you to think about whether you would like your child to continue part time past the first two weeks. We can be very flexible with this. Please speak to the class teacher about this during your ‘meet the teacher meeting’.

The meet the teacher meetings (individual appointment times booked via ParentMail - do check your account) are a great opportunity for you to talk to us on a one to one basis about any concerns you may have. Please bring your child with you so that we can get to meet them properly and they have the chance to familiarise themselves with the classroom. We will also be able to give you more details about the term ahead and the fun we will be having together as a class in September.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. We know that the start of school will be an enjoyable experience for you and your child. We are very much looking forward to helping them take their first steps of their school journey.
