Admissions

Welcome to our school

Welcome to our admissions page, if you have never applied for a school place, before the process can seem baffling but we are here to help you to make decisions, answer your questions and complete applications.

It is important when thinking about which school to choose to not be too influenced by what others are doing. Do your own investigations, ask your own questions and make the decision for you and your family.

St Richard's is a Catholic school and Catholic teaching underpins day to day life within school but we are full inclusive and welcome children and families from other faiths and denominations of the church. As a Catholic school we are responsible for our own admissions according to our admissions policy (see below) and work alongside West Sussex County Council to fill school places.

To apply for a place at St Richard's we ask that you complete a supplementary application form (See below)  and return this to the school by Friday 15th January. If you are a Catholic family and your child is baptised please provide a copy of their baptism certificate and ensure the form is signed by your priest.

If your child already has a sibling at our school please ensure their name is on the form where this is asked for.

If you are a member of another Christian denomination or faith please provide a letter signed by the minister or faith leader to confirm church membership and attendance.

Once the closing date has past our Governing body reviews all applications and applies the selection criteria and places are offered accordingly.

Please do join us for our online question and answer sessions and enjoy the information provided below.

St Richard’s Catholic Primary School 2021/22 Admissions :

The governing body of St Richard’s Catholic Primary School, Chichester has agreed the following statement in order to clarify how its faith-based oversubscription criteria for Catholic applicants will be interpreted whilst churches have been closed or attendance at church is unsafe due to COVID-19.

If a parent/carer attended a given Catholic church prior to the closing of churches for public worship, then where a parent/carer has not subsequently attended worship at a given Catholic church for a given period a parent/carer will be considered to have attended worship at that church for that period where one or more of the following apply:

a)    the church was closed for public worship;

b)    the Sunday obligation remains suspended;

  1. by returning to church the parent/carer would not be taking account of government guidance effective at the time concerning shielding and protecting persons either moderately or extremely clinically vulnerable to COVID-19. The definition of shielding, if needed, is on the link: -
