Reading

In Years 3 and 4, many children will be continuing to read books from our school reading scheme. The scheme is progressive and ensures children become confident and secure readers before becoming 'free readers'. The following coloured book bands are in order of challenge for your reference:

Pink, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Turquoise, Purple Gold, White, Tree Tops, FREE READERS

Children who are free readers have the option to choose books to read that will further inspire, engage and develop their love for reading.

All children will have opportunities to read for pleasure by dipping into books within our classroom and our lovely school library. Please encourage your child to read daily. Children still enjoy being read to at this age, so we would encourage you to find time for this if possible.

Children will have a reading log book which they are encouraged to record the books they read in. The may wish to write or draw about their books. There is no need for parents to write comments in the reading log book. Children will be told to have their reading books in their bags everyday.

If you have any concerns about your child's reading experience, please speak to the class teacher and they will be more than happy to support you.

Once you have a library card you can:

  • reserve children's books for free
  • borrow up to 20 items for 3 weeks
  • renew books as long as no-one else is waiting for them.
