At St Richard's Catholic Primary School, we are committed to helping every child grow into a confident, respectful and responsible individual, secure in the knowledge that they are uniquely created and loved by God. RSHE forms an important part of our wider commitment to pupils' personal development, wellbeing, safeguarding and preparation for life in modern Britain.

We deliver our RSHE curriculum through Ten:Ten's Life to the Full Plus programme, which is fully rooted in Catholic teaching and has been approved by the Catholic Education Service. The programme meets the statutory requirements for Relationships Education, Health Education and the National Curriculum for Science, whilst reflecting the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.

Whilst Life to the Full Plus provides the structure for our curriculum, we carefully adapt and enrich content to meet the specific needs of our pupils, families and local community. This ensures learning is responsive, inclusive and relevant, while remaining faithful to Church teaching and supporting pupils' personal development.

We recognise that parents and carers are the first educators of their children. RSHE is therefore delivered through a strong partnership between home, school and parish. We work closely with families, sharing curriculum information, seeking feedback and providing opportunities for discussion throughout the year.

Our RSHE Curriculum

The curriculum is structured around three key themes:

Created and Loved by God
Children develop an understanding of their God-given dignity and uniqueness. They learn about physical and mental wellbeing, emotional literacy, healthy lifestyles, growth and development and how to value themselves and others.

Created to Love Others
Children learn about family life, friendships, healthy relationships, respect, consent, personal boundaries and keeping themselves safe both online and offline. They develop the skills needed to build positive relationships and recognise where to seek support if they have concerns.

Created to Live in Community
Children learn about their responsibilities within the wider community and the Church. They explore service, social responsibility, diversity, inclusion, citizenship, stewardship and the Common Good, helping them become active and compassionate members of society.

Safeguarding and Inclusion

Our RSHE curriculum supports the school's safeguarding responsibilities by helping pupils to understand healthy and unhealthy relationships, recognise risks, develop resilience and know how to seek help when needed. Teaching is delivered in an age-appropriate way and is adapted where necessary to meet the needs of all learners, including pupils with SEND.

Working with Parents

We consult with parents and carers regularly regarding the content and delivery of our RSHE curriculum. Curriculum overviews and resources are shared with families, and opportunities are provided to discuss learning and ask questions.

Parents have the right to request that their child be withdrawn from the non-statutory elements of sex education taught as part of RSHE. There is no right to withdraw from the statutory Relationships Education, Health Education or National Curriculum Science content.
