At St Richard’s Catholic Primary School, breaktimes are carefully planned to support pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour, and readiness to learn, in line with our high expectations for conduct and personal development.
Morning Break:
10:35am – 10:50am (15 minutes)
Lunch Break:
12:00pm – 12:55pm (55 minutes)
Lunch is organised into two sittings to ensure all pupils are accommodated safely and calmly in the hall.
When not eating, pupils spend breaktimes outdoors, benefiting from fresh air and opportunities for physical activity and social interaction in zoned areas which include tennis, football, basketball, trim trails, reading areas and child-led clubs such as Rubik's Cube Club and Chess Club. Outdoor play supports pupils’ health, emotional wellbeing, and positive behaviour. In cases of severe weather, appropriate indoor arrangements are made.
Parents and carers are asked to ensure children come to school prepared for outdoor play, with suitable clothing for all seasons, including warm layers and waterproofs in winter, and sun hats and sun cream during warmer months.
We recognise the importance of maintaining pupils’ focus and engagement throughout the school day. Where appropriate, and at the teacher’s discretion, pupils may take part in short, structured outdoor activities during the afternoon to support concentration, regulation, and learning.
